Dick Cheney's unfortunate hunting accident was made worse given the ravenous press it received. However, an even more disturbing parallel to our situation is found within this simple (if not tragic) act. I'm being serious here, stop sniggering...
These hunters were not in the wilds ferreting out game in order to partake in man's oldest ritual. They were on a farm that offered a service of domesticated birds. These birds were carried onto a hunting field and then burried ... yes burried, head first in some natural forrage that would hold them until spotted by dogs, equally furnished. Not clear enough? People with money can select from a pool of dociles for their own gain. Our nation is Capitolistic, which by its very definition supplies workers the money to live with just enough left over to (sometimes) by the very things they build/create/distribute/sell. Wealth has the advantage of removing itself from this cycle and *gasp* even influence it.
True, I'm bitter. But one cannot help ponder the tremendous amount of creative and innovative thinking produced from hardships that is lost because it isn't adequately funded. Just docile birds waiting to be used for sport or necessity.
